Bending the rules can also be a rule in some places
I have never been a big fan of RPG games. Too many statistics and calculations that give me a negative impression. I have to admit that it´s also about my lazyness: many games require time and patience to get started. It has been easier choice to pick a game with a lower learning curve. However, this has change little nowadays. I am addicted quit a lot to Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. It's very easy to learn to play and not full of numbers and statistics. Even I don´t have Xbox, maybe it have done something good to this genre. If it would be only a PC game, it could be much harder to learn. People who own game consoles don´t usually buy games that are hard to learn. Just like me, heh. One reason why RPG games are popular, might be behind those statistics and mathematics. After all they are much easier to understand and learn than causalities of the real life. I cannot see any kind of mathematic pattern to real life itself. Chaos theories are too complex for humans to fully understand. In games this is also a problem: gamers are concentrating on finding out bugs and loopholes to cope in the gameworld. Game developers and operators have to keep cheaters away and sometimes even ban gamers that have broken the rules of fair gaming. I wonder how these "hero´s" cope in real life, where cheating is much more difficult. Because I have started to like single player RPG games, I have now started to look at some MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game). Because I like sci-fi a lot, I´m currently thinking about trying out Eve Online. If it feels great, I´ll start to play it. Another interesting one is still coming - isn´t out yet: Matrix Online. Even though the last two movies weren´t so good, the world of Matrix is awesome base for a MMORPG. It´s a world where the bending of rules is a natural way to survive. When the game is out, I will look and see if the creators of game have used possibilites well. I can hardly wait for that. |
