About a year ago I started to build a website for a Finnish punk/rock band. I met the singer of Jumalan Ruoska (the whip of God, a name that Attila the Hun used for himself) in the Liminka School of Arts. I found out, that the current webmaster can´t update the site very often and the band would like to have a totally new layout too. I spent quite a lot of time creating a logo and symbol for the band. I made some sketch versions of the website too, but nothing to put on the Net.

At the beginning of this week I started to buld the site again. I put the logo and symbol into it - it was great to have something for the site already. I put a php -based news system for testing and small things like that, just for beta testing. Of course I informed the two members of the band I had talked about this with beforehand. Today I got some feedback.

Among the normal critics there was something that was very awkward to me. The member of band who e-mailed me, said that original logo of the band has been in use for such a long time that there is no chance of changing it. It was a sad thing to hear. I spend a lot of time doing that logo in Liminka and the singer also saw the process: the feedback from him was positive. Of course it´s up to the band to choose their logo, but still I don´t see the point here. In my honest opinion, the old logo is just a bunch of gothic letters. If I had seen the logo before knowing the band, I would have thought it was related to something very different than a band of any kind.

Well, I guess I just have to accept this decision. However, It would have been nice to know this before spending hours over that logo for Liminka. There's conflict in my mind on the matter: I do understand and respect the opinion of the band members, but I still think I'm right that my logo is better. I don´t know if I should keep defending my own opinion or just give up. If I continue, is it just about pride and inability to accept the failure, or would giving up being just or an act of cowardice?
