Consuming works in both ways.
Beside all fun and games, the Internet can be used
for the education. I have browsed many websites looking for the information
for school projects, but sometimes I do on my own too. We're all born
with some kind of curiousity, how it comes across depends on the person.
Sometimes I find myself reading something that I wasn´t originally
looking for from the net, but something that seems interesting to learn
about. Yeah, I am talking about that Punjab stuff on the right.
Yesterday we had photographing lessons in school. Our teacher told us how old film based cameras from the 60´s and 70´s are the best. They were just built beyond warranty - many photographers use them today too, including my father. However, our teacher told us also that on these days nothing is built to last very long. More high-tech cameras from the end of the 90´s and from today works fine for a few years - until they fall apart. This reminded me about things I have often thought about: we are living in an extremely disposable culture today. Camera are just the one example. I´m writing this on a computer which uses Windows 2000. It´s already obsolete, and soon Windows XP will be obsolete too. I´m writing this with Macromedia Dreamweaver 4.0, which is obsolete. A new version is alwas around the corner, and someone is always keen to take our money. And what is this kind of behaviour is usually called in our culture? Progress! Beware, if you´re not part of the progress, some people may to dispose of you too. When software is obsolete and hardware broken after a short warranty, how long it takes until we fall apart? |
